Bowie is the largest municipality in Prince George's County by population. Much of the city grew from Belair at Bowie, the large planned development built by Levitt and Sons beginning in the 1960s, and its neighborhoods are known by section names such as Belair, Kenilworth and Somerset.
Route 50 and Route 301 cross the city, and Bowie State MARC station serves the Penn Line. Housing includes ranch and split-level homes from the Levitt era, townhouses and newer subdivisions, and Bowie Town Center serves as a regional shopping area.
