Bladensburg is one of Prince George's County's oldest towns, founded in the 1740s as a port on the Anacostia River. It is known as the site of the 1814 Battle of Bladensburg, and Bladensburg Waterfront Park offers boating and trail access along the river.
The town sits just outside the District line along Route 450 (Annapolis Road) and Route 1, close to the Anacostia Tributary Trail system. Housing includes older single-family homes, garden-style apartments and townhouses, with many residents commuting into Washington.
